Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about installs, existing systems and working with us. Can’t find yours? Call (647) 995-4215 or email service@mnbsecurity.com.

General

Can you work on a system someone else installed?
Yes. We troubleshoot, repair and expand commercial systems, including mixed-brand sites and unfinished installations. Before we quote, we look at the existing panels, readers, cabling, software and licensing on site to see what can be reused, repaired or tied in.
How does a quote request work?
Use the quote form or call us. A few lines about the building and what you need is enough; drawings can follow by email. Our team will contact you to review your drawings or schedule an on-site walk-through before finalizing your quote. Request a quote
Do you work with general contractors, electrical contractors and integrators?
Yes. We price labour-only on equipment you supply, or turnkey labour and materials. We match testing, labels and closeout records to your division spec and subcontract scope, including cable certification files, redline as-builts and switch or port schedules where specified. For contractors
What happens at handover after installation?
We test and label the work in our scope, show your team how to use it, and hand over the agreed records: cable test reports, as-builts and port schedules where they’re part of the job. After handover, our team remains available to service, repair and expand the system as your building changes.
What kinds of buildings do you work on?
Commercial, industrial, institutional and multi-residential buildings: warehouses and logistics yards, offices, retail, automotive dealerships, healthcare logistics facilities, and condominium or apartment buildings. Industries
Which security platforms and hardware brands do you install and service?
Our team supplies, installs, programs, expands and services Mercury, Avigilon, Axis, LenelS2, ICT Protege, Brivo, HID, DSC, Aiphone, Genetec, Hanwha Vision, Bosch. We’re independent, not tied to any one manufacturer, so we can usually work with what’s already on the wall: new installs, expansions and takeovers.
Where do you work?
Serving the GTA, with select projects across Southern Ontario. Contact us with your site location to confirm coverage.
How long has MNB Security been in business?
MNB Security has been in business since 2020. The MNB team plans, installs and services commercial security systems, from the site review through testing and handover. About

Commercial access control

More on access control
Is one or two doors too small a job?
No. We do single doors as well as whole buildings, with the same testing, operator training and handover records.
Can you work on the access system we already have?
Yes, we expand and service existing commercial systems. Before we quote, we look at the existing panels, readers, cabling, software and licensing on site to see what can be reused, repaired or tied in.
Can fingerprint or face readers be added to a card system?
Where the reader, controller, software and licensing are compatible. We check the existing system and how you want people to badge in before specifying a biometric reader.

Commercial video surveillance

Can you add cameras to the recording system we already have?
Usually, if the recorder or VMS supports them and there are licences available. Before we quote, we look at the existing panels, readers, cabling, software and licensing on site to see what can be reused, repaired or tied in.
Will the cameras keep recording if the internet goes down?
With on-site recording (an NVR, or storage in the camera), cameras keep recording through an internet outage as long as they and the network have power. A UPS buys limited time in a power cut, and remote viewing may drop out until the internet is back.
Should we use a panoramic camera or a moving PTZ?
A PTZ only looks one way at a time. A multi-sensor camera records its whole 180° to 360° view all the time, from one housing on one cable, with no motor to wear out.
Can cameras go in the stairwells on every floor?
Yes. In multi-residential and office buildings we run EMT conduit up the stairwells and put a vandal-resistant dome on each landing, each one home-run back to the recorder.

Commercial intrusion alarm systems

More on intrusion alarms
Can you work on an alarm someone else installed?
Yes, where the equipment and software support the work. Before we quote, we look at the existing panels, readers, cabling, software and licensing on site to see what can be reused, repaired or tied in.
Do you monitor alarms?
Professional central-station monitoring is available through a monitoring partner. Any ULC monitoring requirement must be confirmed with that partner for the selected service and project scope.

Commercial intercom & entry systems

More on intercom & entry
Can the intercom work with our access control?
With compatible equipment and an approved door design, the intercom and access system can release the same lock. We check the hardware, the release interface and the exit requirements first.
Can residents answer the intercom on their phones?
Answering on a phone or computer, and releasing the door from the same system, depends on the intercom, door hardware, network and licensing. We confirm how answering and release will work before we quote.

Gates & vehicle access

More on gates & vehicle access
Can the gate use the same cards as our building doors?
With compatible readers, controllers, credentials and software, yes: the gate is managed on the building’s access system. We confirm compatibility before quoting.
Will our old gate remotes still work?
Adding a reader doesn’t switch off the old gate remotes or keypads. We agree which ways in stay, and how old remotes and credentials are removed during the changeover.
What do you install at a gate?
Gate operators and their control wiring, readers, intercom stations and licence-plate cameras. Who handles fabrication, trenching, backfill and civil work is agreed in the project scope before work starts.

Structured cabling & wireless

More on structured cabling
Do you only do cabling for security systems?
No. We cable the security systems, and also desks, access points and the rest of the building network, often while the ceiling is already open for the security work.
Do you certify the cable, or just install it?
We certify the permanent links in the testing scope on a calibrated certifier. The quote lists the test files, as-builts and port records you’ll get at handover.
Our fibre link keeps dropping. Can you find out why?
We inspect and clean the connectors first, then use OTDR testing to look for faults along the cable.
Can fibre run out to a camera on a pole?
Yes. We run fibre to pole cameras and remote cabinets where the distance is too far for a standard copper network link.
